Swimming at Prinzenbad and the art of lying still: Stephanie Kloss, artist and founder of ›Die Möglichkeit einer Insel‹, talks about her anniversary exhibition.

What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment I’m at Charité and recovering from back surgery. From my hospital bed, I’m working on the upcoming anniversary exhibition at my project space, talking with artists, putting together works, and looking for sponsorship for the display made of Ytong stones, on which the artworks will then be shown during Berlin Art Week. My own work as a visual artist is at a standstill right now, as am I.

Do you have a daily ritual?
No. I would like to have one, because structure is supposed to be important in an irregular daily routine like mine. I always want to swim 1000 meters at Prinzenbad in the morning, but usually something else comes up.

What do you listen to while working?
Deutschlandfunk Kultur, the podcast Die sogenannte Gegenwart‹, music.

Which book do you like to gift?
Kristy Bell, The Undercurrents‹.

Which art work would you like to have at home?
A large photograph in its original frame of Villa Malaparte by Günther Förg.

Your favourite exhibition venue in Berlin?
Currently Between Bridges at Adalbertstr., Haus am Waldsee, Galerie Konrad Fischer.

What accessory or object could you not be without?
A gold ring from my deceased mother.

What keeps you going?
The joy of visual arts, the freedom to develop and work on new topics over and over again

Who would you like to meet?
I would have liked to meet Absalon.

What do you look forward to after you’ve finished work?
My bed.
