Theodoulos Polyviou about nomadic altars, burning incense, and his upcoming exhibition at Julia Stoschek Foundation.

What are you working on at the moment?
Right now, I am adapting a site-specific video for Julia Stoschek Foundation in both Berlin and Düsseldorf for the ›Double Feature‹ programme. I am also working on a series of sculptures for an upcoming group show at Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler. The shows open this September.

Do you have a daily ritual?
I cleanse my place with a kapnistiri (καπνιστήρι), a traditional incense burner from Cyprus and other Mediterranean regions that was gifted to me by my mom. In the burner, I use natural resins and olive tree leaves for cleansing.

What do you listen to while working?
Krista Papista is my all-time favourite.

Which book do you like to gift?
›The Esoteric Teachings‹ by Dr Stylianos Atteshlis.

Which art work would you like to have at home?
Anything by Gaëlle Choisne.

Your favourite exhibition venue in Berlin?
Berlin is home to an impressive array of art spaces, each contributing in a different way. Among my favourites, though, Savvy Contemporary really stands out.

What accessory or object could you not be without?
My nomadic altar.

What keeps you going?
Going where?

Who would you like to meet?
My brother’s youngest, whom I haven’t met yet.

What do you look forward to after you’ve finished work?
The Cyprus seaside at the end of September.
