The Beginning of Everything is a new project by Paula Santomé that continues her exploration of the mechanisms of power exerted over female bodies. The starting point is a visit to Berlin’s St. Nicholas Church and its depiction of Eve and the serpent. The work investigates the iconographic and mythological origins of patriarchal structures—and the moment of their inception.
Santomé combines traditional techniques such as aluminum relief, wall drawing, and glass sculpture with fictional and narrative elements. Her works give rise to contradictory, powerful representations of the body that resist categorization. In an expansive installation, image fragments, memories, and materials come together. The exhibition reflects on origin myths, disobedience, guilt, and the role of images in reproducing or dissolving power relations.
