Between 1927 and 1991 the languages of 25 million peoples in the Soviet empire changed alphabets once, twice and sometimes even three times. Azbuka Strikes Back (Verlag Walther und Franz König 2024), Slavs and Tatars’ new sound book, explores the story of fugitive sounds in search of shelter. A workshop for kids aged 8-12 will explore different sounds and the various letters, in Arabic, Latin and Cyrillic alphabets, drafted to give them shape.
