On the occasion of Berlin Art Week, Galerie alexander levy is pleased to present the video installation ›frame of reference I & II (2020)‹ by Taiwanese artist and filmmaker Su Yu Hsin (*1989). In her essayistic video installations, she deals with the relationship between ecology and technology and the production of geographical knowledge.
The work ›frame of reference‹, produced in collaboration with GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences and NCTU Disaster Prevention and Water Environment Research Center, shows scientists in the Taroko Gorge in Taiwan investigating the extent to which landslides are driven by weather and influence the climate. Su Yu Hsin is interested in the scientists' approach: Through the use of Near-Real-Time Monitoring Networks, the body of the person observing is replaced by cameras, seismographs and weather stations to see beyond the scale of the human perceptual system. With this work, the artist Su Yu Hsin questions the formatting of scalar relationships between field, laboratory and database.
