Magical Soup—Curator Anna-Catharina Gebbers in conversation with Nicole Wermers

The artist Nicole Wermers presents her work ›The Violet Revs‹ (2017) in a conversation with the curator Anna-Catharina Gebbers. The installative work can be seen in the exhibition ›Magical Soup. Medienkunst aus der Sammlung der Nationalgalerie, der Friedrich Christian Flick Collection im Hamburger Bahnhof und Leihgaben‹ (6 SEP 2020 bis 3 JAN 2021, Hamburger Bahnhof—Museum für Gegenwart—Berlin).

Nicole Wermers was born in 1971 in Emsdetten (DE) and currently lives in London (GB). From 1990 to 1997 she studied at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts with Sigmar Polke and Claus Böhmler. In 1999 she received her Master of Fine Arts at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. In 2015 Wermers was nominated for the Turner Prize. Since 2017 Nicole Wermers is professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

Magical Soup explores the power and magic with which images, sound, music and language create, reveal or hide reality. The respective works move between close observation, radical self-expression and conscious deconstruction of identity.
The exhibition pursues these explorations of the relationship between (moving) image and sound with works ranging from media art pioneers to a younger generation of artists.
