Levy Galerie has operated in the international art scene for 55 years, earning a first-rate reputation among European galleries throughout the past decades. The gallery has maintained branches in Paris, France (3 years), Madrid, Spain (1987—2002, 15 years), and Berlin, Germany (3 years). It was founded in 1970 by Thomas Levy (*1947) in Hamburg, Germany, and pursues a multifaceted programme based on the pillars of Surrealism, Nouveau Réalisme and Pop Art. Beginning with exhibition management, followed by art communication, consulting, and in-depth artist support, the gallery realises conceptually based and media-spanning exhibitions, accompanied by a variety of catalogues.
Levy Galerie represents the artists Eduardo Arroyo, Werner Berges, Johannes Hüppi, Allen Jones, Richard Lindner, Daniel Mohr, Max Neumann, C. O. Paeffgen, Mel Ramos, Daniel Spoerri, Annette Streyl, Ernesto Tatafiore and Wainer Vaccari. It also represents the estates of Meret Oppenheim and Friedrich Einhoff, in close coordination with the artists’ families. The artists take part in institutional solo and group exhibitions worldwide, are represented in both public and private collections, and have received, among others, major grants and public commissions.
Levy Galerie regularly participates in art fairs such as ARCO, Madrid; The Armory Show, New York; Art Basel; Art Cologne; and Art Düsseldorf. From there, we successfully place artworks in numerous private and public collections, including the Centre Pompidou, Paris; Kunsthalle Bremen; Kunsthalle Hamburg; Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MKGH); Museum of Contemporary Art Krakow (MOCAK), Poland; Museum Ludwig, Cologne; Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, USA; Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich; and the Städel Museum, Frankfurt am Main.
