ZK/U - Center for Arts and Urbanistics
As part of BAW Featured 2024
The ZK/U—Center for Art and Urbanistics was founded in 2012 in the Moabit Stadtgarten, in a former freight station. As an artist-led, independent art residency and project space, it serves as a hub for the exchange between global discourses and local practice. Its aim is to share experiences with other organizations and cultural practitioners, to further develop them, and to make them publicly accessible. The ZK/U continuously realizes a variety of projects and practices within the house, in Moabit, Berlin, and internationally, with a focus on artistic research and social innovation.
In September 2024, after a four-year expansion phase, the ZK/U will begin a new chapter of its work. In the new building, artistic, urban, human, and non-human positions will come together to collectively observe the movements on the societal horizon. In the exhibition Commons Cosmodrome, the house will become the starting point for new artistic and social impulses. Here, the journey of the ZK/U into the cosmos of the common begins: collaborations between artists and the neighborhood, connections between the human and the artificial, and interweaving ideas and practices.
