LuYang answers our questionnaire: on Buddha, vultures and Kentucky Fried Chicken

What are you working on at the moment?
I’m working on a solo show for the Deutsche Bank ›Artist of the Year‹ exhibition and a solo show for the Zabludowicz Collection, as well as shows in Hong Kong and Sydney in October, among many other projects.

What are you currently reading or listening to?
Recently I’ve been reading ›Dharma Bums, Siddhartha‹, ›Thus Spoke Zarathustra‹, and some books by Jiddu Krishnamurti. I want to find inner peace and wisdom.

What would you do if you weren’t an artist or didn’t work with art?
I think I might work at KFC, because when I was a child I had a cousin who worked there. So when I was growing up I thought I should also work at KFC (laughs).

Do you have a favorite building?
I haven’t paid special attention to any buildings.

What animal would you like to be?
I would want to be a bird, perhaps a vulture. I would want to look down on the world from very high above, to see it from a distant place with a holistic view.

Whom would you like to meet someday?
I would like to meet the Buddha, though it is said in the Vajra Sutra that one cannot meet the Buddha in physical form. Buddha’s wisdom can answer all my questions about this world.

Do you have a daily ritual?
No, I don’t have one.

What was the biggest mistake that you had to admit?
There are too many to list.

What accessory or object is essential for you?
There isn’t one.

What do you do after you finish working?
Sleep.
