Carolyn Lazard’s practice explores the limits of aesthetic perception, asking viewers to consider where, when, and how artworks are experienced and understood. Questioning ableist expectations of individual productivity and efficiency, Lazard’s work enacts a material shift in the production and reception of art. Spanning the mediums of video, installation, sculpture, and performance, Lazard's work appraises not only the circulation of art in society, but also how society shapes our understanding of value, care, and dependency. Accessibility is central to their practice, serving as both a theme and material of their work. In their first exhibition at Trautwein Herleth, Carolyn Lazard will bring together a new body of sculptures and site-specific installations which set institutional and somatic space into poetic dialogue.
