The exhibition brings together two artistic positions that engage in different ways with East German reality, memory, and interpretation. Eric Meier and Andrea Pichl address the material, cultural, and symbolic aftereffects of the GDR—moving between critical reflection, irony, and formal precision.
Eric Meier presents photographs of banana slices in which disappointed, caricatured faces seem to emerge on their own. The banana—a symbol of Western promise during the time of reunification—becomes an ambivalent vessel for unfulfilled expectations.
