The festival ›Extended Spaces — Resonant Bodies: Alvin Lucier‹ follows in the footsteps of the American composer and artist Alvin Lucier, who died in December 2021. Composers and sound artists from various genres were commissioned by singuhr – projekte to reflect on Lucier's works and to create new works bases on their engagement with Lucier.

The festival sees itself as a tribute to Alvin Lucier and at the same time as an explicitly contemporary project – a homage to the artist, who remained artistically active into old age and was always open to new contexts. The program includes three exhibitions with a total of eight sound installations, eleven concerts as well as a two-day symposium. Performances of works by Alvin Lucier will always be combined with current compositions, sound performances and installations comissioned by singuhr – projekte. In addition, a two-day symposium will focus on Alvin Lucier's special role in the world of music, sound art and experimental music up to the present day.

The festival will take place from 11 – 22 September 2024 at six different venues in Berlin: Parochialkirche (Berlin-Mitte), Radialsystem (Berlin-Friedrichshain), Kunstquartier Bethanien, Emmauskirche, Galerie CLB Berlin and daadgalerie (all Berlin-Kreuzberg).

More than 20 national and international artists, composers and musicians are taking part in the festival, including many who have been familiar with Lucier's oeuvre for years, but also artists who are engaging with Alvin Lucier for the first time: David Behrman (US), Nicolas Collins (US), Charles Curtis (US), Hugo Esquinca (MX), John Fulleman (SE), Hauke Harder (DE), Hanna Hartman (SE), Juliana Hodkinson (GB/DK), Ron Kuivila (US), Yutaka Makino (JP), Michael Moser (AT), Winfried Rager (DE), Ana Maria Rodriguez (AR), Trevor Saint (US), Tashi Wada (US), Robyn Schulkowsky + Joey Baron (US) und Alberto de Campo + Hannes Hoelzl + Jiawen Wang + Anne Wellmer (DE).

The ensembles KNM Berlin and Ever Present Orchestra (EPO) will perform Alvin Lucier's compositions and new works. Lucier worked very closely with the EPO in his last creative period. Several renowned soloists will also perform works by Lucier and Berlin-based Lucier expert Hauke Harder will realize Lucier's sound installations.
