Caique Tizzi (born in Sao Paulo, living and working in Berlin) is a chef and artist. The focus of his practice is on the artistic approach to food, in which the kitchen is both a studio and laboratory. His food interventions explore the everyday act of eating together and question how inclusion in relation to taste can be researched. At BAW Garten, Tizzi and his team invite all Berlin Art Week visitors to taste his daily ›Frucht-Ecken‹ (fruit corners). In many cultures, fruits play a major role in welcoming guests—so this culinary morsel is also a gesture of welcome, enticing with a different fruit each day. Starting with the typical welcoming fruit of Brazil, the pineapple, he turns to the primordial fruit of life, an apple, followed by the fruit of femininity and power par excellence—the pomegranate—and the melon, which is often served to welcome guests in Arabic and Mediterranean regions, through to citrus fruits as a sour, vitamin-rich finish. In doing so, Tizzi takes up the architecture of the place—the nooks and crannies of the Neue Nationalgalerie—as well as the BAW Garten that surrounds it.
