At the heart of ›Lightsoff Lightson‹ are concepts of in-between, being on the move and spaces of transfer: phases and places of transition, spaces that are not conceived as final destinations, but as intermediate stations, as episodes of waiting, reflection, and change. States between corporality and incorporeality, this world and the beyond, reality and fiction, in which the absent is present both threateningly and weightlessly, flow as motifs into all the works. Light metaphorically guides the formal, poetic, and humorous search for location and insight.
The practice of the participating artists combines considerations on the present—characterized by social uncertainty, existential fragility, and finitude—with often humorous reflections on the positioning of their own work in the seemingly timeless history of art. The title quotes a sketch by the artist Norbert Schwontkowski, who died in 2013.
