Matthias Dornfeld’s painting practice consciously departs from classical conventions. While he engages with traditional genres such as portraiture, landscape, and still life, he systematically disrupts their familiar structures in favor of a radically subjective approach. At the heart of his work lies not the subject matter, but the act of painting itself. Through gestural immediacy and intuitive clarity, Dornfeld aims to free himself from theoretical and ideological constraints—pursuing instead a direct, unfiltered form of expression.
Born in 1960 in Esslingen, Germany, Dornfeld studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he later returned as a guest professor. For over two decades, his work has been featured in prominent exhibitions and international collections. During Berlin Art Week 2025, he will present a solo exhibition at Soy Capitán, Berlin, once again highlighting the distinctive and uncompromising nature of his painterly vision.
