Artist residencies derive their strength from their multi-lane dynamics, the potential for constant transformation, from the fluctuations between arriving, staying, and departing of its space. Between rest and restlessness lies the particular challenge to not only preserve encounters and happenings, but to remain capable of acting across geographical borders, temporal dimensions and to allow ongoing synergies to emerge, even after the residencies have ended.
In the exhibition ›No Departures Without Arrivals‹, the ZK/U residency program will experiment with different formats to build bridges between former and current residents. Central locations of the residency - a studio, a project room, the kitchen, the terrace and the urban stage - will function as a place of negotiation. Using simple technical resources, on-site artists are connected simultaneously to former fellows they have never met before. The feedback creates a performative exhibition with live DJ sets, synchronized cooking sessions and a joint film screening of selected artistic positions.
