With ›Dirt and Myth‹, the daadgalerie presents the first solo exhibition by artist Patricia Belli in Germany. Belli lived and worked in Berlin in 2021/2022 as a fellow of the Berlin Artists-in-Berlin Program.
Working across a range of disciplines, Patricia Belli mobilizes fiber, everyday objects, and handcrafted media to explore the entanglement between bodies and systems, and the precarious balance that conditions them against structures of violence. Working with lived experience as starting points, Belli recuperates somatic sensibilities as an archive of knowledge and site of articulation.
The daadgalerie is showing around 25 works from different periods of her artistic work since the mid-1990s. On display are sculptural objects, video works and a new version of the installation ›El Circo‹ from 2001, which represents an important anchor point in Belli's oeuvre. In the screen print series ›Tierra Quemada‹ (2024) created for the exhibition and the video work ›Recuerdos‹ (2022), Belli focuses on current social crises such as climate change and war.
Patricia Belli lives and works in Managua, Nicaragua. Her works have been shown at the 10th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art (2018), the 38th EVA International, Ireland (2018), the 58th Carnegie International, Chicago (2022) and Parallel, Oaxaca (2024), among many others.
