Rebecca Pokua Korang. ›Sonnets of Anger‹

›Sonnets of Anger‹ is a performance that stages three sound works by Rebecca Pokua Korang—›Angry Black Woman‹, ›Baby Calm Down‹ und ›Revolution‹. It draws on a personal movement language that blends contemporary and urban styles, influenced by hip-hop—a genre born out of resistance. Collaborating with Litchi Ly Friedrich and Farina Aigbedion, ›Sonnets of Anger‹ explores intersectional perspectives on female anger, with a particular focus on the experiences of women of color in Germany. Through an interplay of spoken word, music, and dance, the performance confronts the often-oppressed and
hidden expressions of anger, reclaiming this emotion as a source of empowerment. The piece reaffirms the destructive power of anger, challenging societal norms that seek to silence it.

Rebecca Pokua Korang is a multidisciplinary artist and cultural educator with a background in theatre and dance. Her work is driven by her German-Ghanaian heritage and its relation to the broader African diaspora. Korang explores the intersections of movement, media, and space in which she works with video, textile, and sound. She is currently doing her Master’s
degree in Spatial Strategies at Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin.

Litchi Ly Friedrich is an interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin, whose work delves into migration, diasporic experiences, and their connections to colonialism, class, and power structures. Her performative work often draws from her involvement in the Ballroom community, relating to the lived realities of migrant-queer spaces.

Farina Aigbedion is a Nigerian-German public speaker and workshop facilitator specializing in Critical Whiteness, empowerment, and cultural education in the areas of songwriting, singing, storytelling, and filmmaking. Her intersectional approach is rooted in anti-colonial and queer-feminist theories, which she connects with her Afro-diasporic perspective on life. She is also a voice actor, writer, and podcast host.
