Am Flutgraben 3, 12435 Berlin
In conjunction with ›The Deluge‹, Flutgraben will host a double bill of electro acoustic excellence with two revered veterans of the scene, Pyrolator and Gudrun Gut. Performing back to back individual sets, these champions of innovative music will fill Flutgraben’s Mehrzweckhalle with amplified volumes of experience.
Pyrolator aka Kurt Dahlke, has contributed widely to the German electronic scene, co-founding the label Ata Tak (more than 150 releases since 1979), playing in bands D.A.F., Der Plan and Fehlfarben, in addition to his own mammoth compositional output of over 150 individual works. Dahlke's innovative approach to sound has always been entwined with contemporary art. He has received several public commissions in Berlin and Düsseldorf and his undulating sculpture ›Der Tag, an dem die Erde stillsteht‹ recently entered the collection of the Folkwang, Essen, where it was presented this May.
Gudrun Gut’s story likewise spans many years, scenes, and sounds, from the ›ingenious dilettantes‹ subculture of early 1980’s Berlin as part of Mania D, Einstürzende Neubauten, and Malaria! to Matador into an expansive solo catalog of later work. Her talents also extends to founding record labels (Moabit Musik and Monika Enterprise), being a radio presenter and producer (Oceanclub Radio for RadioEins), hosting club nights (Oceanclub), festival curation (MarkeB, UM-Festival) and the recent feminist collaborations (Monika Werkstatt). In the words of ›The Wire's‹ Philip Sherburne »She has done all of this largely by maintaining her independence. Not in the rejectionist strain that characterizes knee-jerk American individualism, but rather by creating and attending to niches and spaces of possibility in the interstices and the margins.«
