Guides and Critics 2021

It won't be long until Berlin Art Week 2021 kicks off―and of course the programme of exhibitions, openings, galleries, tours, and events requires careful study! Four online and print magazines can help with selected recommendations for this year's 10th edition, so you can gather inspiration for your visit!

In the current edition of Weltkunst, Christiane Meixner has written about Berlin Art Week. In addition to reflecting on the development of Berlin Art Week over the past 10 years, she also focuses on exhibitions such as ›Preis der Nationalgalerie 2021‹ at Hamburger Bahnhof or individual presentations such as Tatjana Doll and Alexandra Bircken at Kindl―Center for Contemporary Art. A free version of the article is available online; you can also order the print version of the magazine here free of charge.

On the special pages of Tagesspiegel for Berlin Art Week, Nicola Kuhn meets the Berlin-based artist Alicja Kwade, who is presenting self-portraits of herself based data of the body in her large solo exhibition ›In Abwesenheit (In Absence)‹ at Berlinische Galerie. In addition, museums, galleries, and project spaces are asked the question »Are you still there?«―an inventory after 15 months of pandemic. Tony Cragg’s drawings will be examined more closely in Haus am Waldsee and particular attention will be paid to Esther Schipper, one of the most successful gallery owners in the city. Don’t miss the special pages for Berlin Art Week in the Tagesspiegel on 15 SEP 2021: Here you can order a 30-day gift subscription for the digital edition of the Tagesspiegel.

The online magazine Berlin Art Link has also put together its personal highlights. They have included: Akademie der Künste with the group exhibition ›Nothingtoseeness―Empty / White / Stille‹, Bili Bidjocka’s solo exhibition ›Enigma #59: Roman‹ at Savvy Contemporary, Thea Djordjadze at Gropius Bau and the immersive performance ›Somabog‹ from Coven Berlin at c/o Kunstpunkt. Last but not least, the heads behind Cee Cee Berlin have made recommendations for the coming week. Their personal highlights are the young painter Tamina Amadyar, who is exhibiting at Brücke-Museum as part of the ars viva 2022 prize winners, as well as the show ›In Abwesenheit (In Absence)‹ by Alicja Kwade at Berlinische Galerie and Thea Djordjadze at Gropius Bau.
