Billy Childish (b. 1959, Chatham, GB) employs extemporaneously conjured sources of inspiration in his painting that range from the ubiquitous to the specific, with subjects as diverse as his immediate surroundings and family to spiritually engaged musings and concepts. Creating organically, Childish follows his own stream of consciousness to unite dichotomies such as past and present or reality and fantasy to shape the experience of an ›erratic dream‹ that acts on the subconscious to assist in uncovering universal truths. By painting variations on favored motifs, he conjures chance narratives and networks between his subjects that often only emerge in retrospect, serendipitously forming compositions that stage scenes and pose questions rather than answer them definitively.
