Super Super Markt is pleased to present ›Volumen‹, a solo exhibition by American artist Adrienne Maki (b. 1997 in San Francisco, USA).

Adrienne Maki’s artistic practice combines painting and sculpture in a distinctive visual language that extends painting beyond the boundaries of the traditional canvas. She works primarily as a sculptor, creating organic, symmetrical supports that break free from the rigidity of the square format while still maintaining a precise structural logic. The resulting works navigate the tension between the body, architecture, and industry, functioning simultaneously as both paintings and objects.

On these dimensional surfaces, Maki views painting more as an extension of form, not an applied layer. Poured passages, striking incisions, egg-shaped motifs, and understated gestures engage directly with the contours of the painting surface, allowing structure and image to emerge as a unified whole. Influenced by Japanese and American approaches to color and composition, her work emphasizes immediacy, restraint, and a sense of ›effortlessness‹—in search of surfaces that feel both deliberate and instinctive, carefully considered yet seemingly spontaneous.
