C/O Berlin is pleased to present the eleventh ›Artistic Intervention‹ at Café C/O Berlin x Bark Berlin, featuring internationally acclaimed artist Ayşe Erkmen. The installation ›Typed Types‹ takes as its starting point the well-known pangram ›The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog‹. Widely used to demonstrate typefaces, the sentence contains every letter of the alphabet. Erkmen applies it across the café’s walls in adhesive vinyl, using a typeface she developed by combining signs and symbols produced with a typewriter. Enveloping the space, the seemingly nonsensical sentence unfolds into an almost slapstick-like visual narrative, growing smaller and smaller until the proverbial dog appears to vanish. Like many of Erkmen’s site-responsive works, ›Typed Types‹ is reconfigured for each venue, allowing its meaning to shift with its architectural and cultural context. Presented during the bicentennial of photography, the installation playfully reflects on the boundaries between language, code, and image.
