In the 1980s, a specifically East German engagement with postmodernism emerged in the GDR out of a bohemian subculture—even though the term could not be used there. Drawing on the life and work of Michael Kny, an architect who shaped that scene, and the ›Marzahner Tor‹ he designed, the exhibition uses models, texts, film documents, and artistic interventions to explore the failed hopes for a ›New GDR.‹
