The Achim Freyer Arthouse is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Berlin-based painter Lunita-July Dorn (b. 1999) as part of Berlin Art Week 2026.
In large-format paintings and drawings, Dorn repeatedly casts herself as the imaginary protagonist. Whether alone or in multiples, her own portrait serves as the starting point for a profound self-examination through which she explores individual and social role models in her paintings.
In her paintings, Dorn weaves personal memories and emotions with fantastical motifs and scenes into graceful, autofictional narratives. Her paintings possess a touching immediacy. She preserves the traces of her creative process. She deliberately leaves preliminary sketches, overdrawings, layers, erasures, and re-exposed passages visible.
Dorn’s search for identity—both visual and psychological—is thus not a closed chapter, but a state of constant transformation.
The Achim Freyer Arthouse invites Lunita-July Dorn, one of the most dazzling voices in contemporary Berlin art, to enter into a dialogue with the collection of classical modernism, l’Art Brut and Outsider Art.
The exhibition officially opens on 12 SEP. A preview is scheduled for 9—11 SEP.
