Stef Heidhues: hook, line and sinker

On the occasion of Berlin Art Week 2026, Galerie Eigen + Art will open the exhibition ›hook, line and sinker‹ by Stef Heidhues during Gallery Night on 10 SEP, 6—10pm. 

Stef Heidhues’s works begin with the familiar—with objects and forms that surround us every day: advertising signs, safety goggles, picture frames, saddles. However, the sculptures we encounter in the exhibition space are neither readymades nor exact reproductions. On the contrary, the process here involves first carefully examining a particular object—one that has found its way, in one way or another, into the artist’s everyday life and surroundings—to grasp its materiality, surface, and form, and to take an impression of it. Materials are weighed, tested, and deemed suitable—or unsuitable. A manually manipulated image emerges—the traces and essence of the respective object often remain legible within it, despite its new materiality, and yet something entirely new is created. (...)
