Admission is free on the first Sunday of every month. The exhibition opening ›Vietnam. Art. GDR. Reclaiming Solidarity‹ on Wednesday, 9 SEP 2026, 10am—6pm is free of charge.
Free admission for children and young people up to 18 years, school classes incl. teachers, representatives of the press, recipients of Bürgergeld and required accompanying person of severely disabled as well as for artists and lenders of the exhibition and members of the following associations: International Council of Museums, International Association of Art, Berufsverband Bildender Künstler*innen Berlin e.V., Bundesverband Bildender Künstler*innen.
Reduced price valid for trainees and students, pensioners and welfare recipients as well as for severely disabled persons with official ID and owners of ArtCard and Ehrenamtskarte.

In its exhibition rooms at Lietzenseepark, the Stiftung Kunstforum Berliner Volksbank displays figurative art from the post-war period, with a focus on art from the GDR.
The paintings, sculptures, and works on paper come from the Kunstsammlung der Berliner Volksbank (art collection of Berliner Volksbank), which is owned by the Stiftung Kunstforum Berliner Volksbank.
The Kunstsammlung der Berliner Volksbank was established in 1985 under the motto ›Bilder vom Menschen—Bilder für Menschen‹ (›Images of People – Images for People‹). It comprises over 1,500 works by around 200 artists.
A special feature of the collection is the high proportion of artists from the GDR, including influential representatives of the ›Berliner Schule‹ and ›Leipziger Schule‹, from Dresden, and from the alternative art scene in East Berlin. However, West Berlin art movements such as the Neue Wilde and other important West German positions are also part of the multifaceted collection profile.
Changing exhibitions at the Stiftung Kunstforum Berliner Volksbank offer varied insights into this extraordinary art collection and encourage visitors to engage with topics such as identity, social change, and contemporary history. They provide an understanding of the development of the art scene in Berlin and neighboring regions—from the division of the city to the turbulent period of reunification and the tensions between East and West. Collaborations with national and international cultural institutions and contemporary artists complement the exhibition concepts.
The Stiftung Kunstforum Berliner Volksbank not only presents German art history of the last decades, but is also a place of cultural education and participation. With its Werkstatt für Kreative (workshop for creatives), it founded one of the first museum education programs in Berlin in 2005. In free workshops tailored to different age groups, daycare groups and school classes visit the respective exhibition, learn about artistic techniques, and apply them in their own works of art.
