Some of it to look at. Most of it to listen to. A route through the sound-focused programme of Berlin Art Week—ten selected events across the week.

At Hamburger Bahnhof, a major Ryuichi Sakamoto retrospective opens with ›seeing sound, hearing time‹. At REETHAUS, Hans Ulrich Obrist and Ben Vickers curate ›The Ear is the Eye of the Soul‹, a listening experience featuring Brian Eno, Patti Smith, and Meredith Monk among others. Community radios take over the airwaves for the Berliner Hörspielfestival, including a takeover at Cashmere Radio.

Also on: JJJJJerome Ellis, weaving stutter, voice, and Black musical tradition into performance at Haus am Waldsee; Wadada Leo Smith at MALA; Jane Garbert and Adriano Redoglia at nGbK; and the activation of Nevin Aladağ’s sculpture ›Public Resonator‹ at PalaisPopulaire. At Konzerthaus Berlin, Leyla Yenirce performs together with Solomon Garcon, layering spoken word, field recordings, noise, ambient, and techno into a powerful political statement on feminist resistance. at At Between Bridges Residency Space, caner teker’s ›B2B / Nothing New‹ brings a performance programme featuring Space Afrika, Rayne, Emil Ertl, and Martin Hansen.

Last but not least: the Kyiv Biennial’s live programme at KW, with a week of concerts and performances presenting diverse sonic practices and vocal traditions, complemented by a series of listening sessions opening up geopolitical perspectives on sound.
