Dedicated to an unlikely form of knowledge production–one where hospitality and discourse are inseparable—Pickle Bar is a non-profit art space in Berlin’s Moabit district addressing items of urgency in oral and cultural histories, material culture, language and gender studies across Eurasia. Co-Founded in 2020 by the curator and its artistic director Anastasia Marukhina and artist collective Slavs and Tatars, Pickle Bar focuses on performative and discursive formats, initiates research and production of new works.
Thematic programmes challenge the constraints on trans-regional and trans-rational knowledge production and invite investigation and animation of the area between the roof of the mouth and the tongue, cutting across spoken word, poetry, and politics, and exploring the limits of ideologies and the edges of belief systems.
